In a land where everything feels right.............. It is a land where time does not exist...........
SHERRY KELLEY, like so many artists, found this place as a child and since has devoted time and effort to the love of art. Having studied with some of the most respected artists in the country, including Daniel Green, Albert Handell, and Ben Konis in pastel, and Trace Guthrie in sculpture, Sherry has won numerous awards in invitational and juried competitions. Sherry became a signature member in the prestigious New York based Pastel Society of America in 1987 after having won the Mario DeVita Memorial award in their annual judged and juried art show with a painting of five Brahmas entitled, "Phantom Watch". "Having grown up around cattle and knowing first hand the pleasurable scent of feeding alfalfa to cattle or experiencing the audible crunch of range cubes being eaten by captivated cattle, I have a special admiration for the peaceful bovine." The artist enjoys working in pastel because of it's versatility, vividness of pure color, and the spontaneity it allows. During the past five years, Sherry has expanded her interest in art by creating three dimensional sculptures in high-fired clay. "Sculpting in clay is messy, heavy, a challenge, work and sheer fun", exclaims the artist. "No matter the choice of medium, the fact still remains...... the love of life beats just beneath the surface. Painting and sculpting is a balancing act of shapes, values and colors", she says. " Every artwork offers the excitement of a new challenge and with these challenges evolve new ideas. This process is the origin of creativity."
